LITS 3601 (E36A) AFRICAN LITERATURE I

This course is intended as an introduction to the study of African literature in English with reference to representative texts (prose fiction, drama, and poetry). We will examine the issues of colonialism and neo-colonialism, nationalism, gender politics and the politics of literary form.

Prerequisite : E10B and one Level II prose fiction course

Instruction : 2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week

Evaluation : Tutorial presentations and 1 essay (10 pages) 40%

Final 2-hour examination (2 answers) 60%
