Researchers at the Mona Campus of The University of the West Indies (UWI) will
demonstrate how key innovations resulting from their work continue to contribute to regional development at the 16th staging of the institution’s annual Research Days exhibition scheduled for Monday, February 9 to Wednesday, February 11 at the Mona Campus. Under the theme ‘Innovating for Development through Science, Creativity, Production and Governance’, the three day exposition will allow investors, policy-makers and stakeholders in the public and private sectors to explore practical solutions to their everyday challenges, developed through Mona research.

The event will highlight the ways in which the institution has been assiduously creating an enabling environment to drive the development and improvement of products, services and processes in key areas. Over the three days, researchers will also address major development issues that affect Jamaica and the region, by engaging participants interactive displays of the ways that research is improving products and mechanisms in a range of fields and industries. This range includes applications in food security, health and medicine, science and technology, alternative energy, climate change, ICT, sports,
economics, governance, education, entrepreneurship and crime.

This major public engagement in the research process will be achieved through the presentation of an extensive slate of over 100 research projects in different ways. In addition to the main exhibition open to the public for the three day event, patrons are invited to participate in their choice of over 100 activities including daily tours, on-faculty displays, book launches, seminars and lectures such as the annual AFJ/Sue Cobb Lecture.


Research Days allows the UWI Mona, the premiere research body in the region, to deepen its partnership with Private and Public Sector entities in its drive to power national and regional development. Since 1998, the annual February event has been a significant step toward justifying the institution’s research endeavours though tangible evidence of its contribution to everyday Caribbean life.


Research Days 2015 will be held February 9 to 11 on the Mona Campus under the direction of Professor Archibald McDonald, Principal and Pro Vice Chancellor and a steering committee headed by Professor Denise Eldemire-Shearer, and Professor Dale Webber.
