Professor Edward Ghartey Elected AFEA President-Elect

Professor Edward Ghartey, Department of Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, at The UWI, Mona Campus, has been voted President-elect and Program Chair of African Finance and Economics Association for 2017 annual ASSA meeting to be held in Chicago. His election took place at the January 2-5, 2016 Allied Social Science Associations annual meeting which was organized by the American Economic Association in San Francisco, California, USA.

Professor Ghartey has served on executive committees of other international associations. He was a former member of the Advisory Board Committee of North American Finance and Economics Association now International Banking, Economics and Finance Association; a former Director of African Finance and Economics Association; Associate Editor of Frontiers in Finance and Economics, invited member of Caribbean Academy of Sciences, to name a few.

Professor Ghartey has a distinguished record of original work in the areas of international finance, public finance, macroeconomic and monetary policy issues. He has published in several international refereed journals which include Applied Econometrics and International Development, Applied Economics, Economic Modelling, Frontiers in Finance and Economics, International Economic Journal, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Development, Journal of Economic Asymmetries, North American Journal of Finance and Economics, Tourism Economics, to name a few. He applies recently developed econometric techniques to solve policy related problems in developing countries to inform their economic policies. He has also applied advanced time-series techniques to a wide variety of policy related issues in mostly emerging markets, particularly Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and the Caribbean. 

 Professor Ghartey has also been the recipient of several UWI Research and Publication Awards for excellence in his field. He has also received grants from Ford Foundation, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education Research Council in the US, and Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
