The UWI Mona Mourns the Passing of Former Prime Minister, Edward Seaga

The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus mourns the passing of one of our Distinguished Fellows, Former Prime Minister Edward Phillip George Seaga. The Mona community extends its condolences to his widow Carla, also a member of the university community, his children and the rest of his family; we also express condolences to his colleagues, constituency members, friends and well-wishers in their time of bereavement.

UWI’s Ja Bio Plastics to Represent Jamaica and Defend Global Championship in International Business Model Competition

Ja Bio Plastics, a student-entrepreneur team from the University of the West Indies, has emerged as the winner of the National Business Model Competition (NBMC), securing a cash prize of J$2m and an all-expense paid trip to defend Jamaica’s 2018 global championship at the upcoming International Business Model Competition (IBMC) at the Brigham Young University campus in Provo, Utah, United States.

The following is an extended tribute to the late Sir Alister McIntyre, issued by Professor Sir Hilary Beckles.
 
I was but a rookie, in UWI years, when Sir Alister, after blazing a global trail, wheeled and returned to the realm as a Caribbean colossus to serve us as Vice-Chancellor. The timing was perfect. His presence powerful and turbulent. Together, they constituted an image reflective of the ground scorching cover drive we had come to expect of Viv Richards.

STATEMENT FROM SIR GEORGE ALLEYNE, CHANCELLOR EMERITUS

The following statement is issued by Sir George Alleyne, Chancellor Emeritus of The University of the West Indies on the passing of Sir Alister McIntyre, who served as UWI Vice-Chancellor during the period 1988-1998.
 
Grieve we must and grieve we shall. We grieve for ourselves because we have lost the light which Alister McIntyre shone upon the things many of us hold dear.
 
There are those who will speak eloquently about his skill as an economist and his efforts to have economic analysis inform Caribbean policy. But for our academy his death triggers memories of the good he wrought among and for us.
 

THE UWI AND BROCK UNIVERSITY EXPLORE PROPOSAL FOR CANADA-CARIBBEAN STUDIES INSTITUTE
