Natural Hazards Atlas of Jamaica Launched at UWI, Mona

Capturing the impact of common natural hazards that affect Jamaica is the newly released Natural Hazards Atlas of Jamaica by Parris Lyew-Ayee Jnr. and Rafi Ahmad, UWI experts. The book will be launched on Wednesday, September 26 at 6 pm at the Blue Room, Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre, UWI, Mona. 
 
Natural Hazards Atlas of Jamaica is designed to present readily available information in a graphic and stylized format that is accessible to a general audience while being of value to decision makers at the local level, developers, community stakeholders, businesses, international donor agencies, students, educators at the secondary and tertiary level and other local and international stakeholders. The book presents existing research and information in a jargon-free, easy to use manner in three sections. The Atlas covers: Physical Geography of Jamaica including its landscape and landforms, geology, and natural environment, Common Hazards in Jamaica and Maps of each parish and models of each hazard.
 
Professor David Barker of the University of the West Indies,Mona congratulates “the authors on successfully negotiating the huge task of compiling detailed geo-coded information on natural hazards from both historical and contemporary sources and providing an engaging collection of maps which offer fascinating insights into the multiple hazards that impact Jamaica”.
