CARIMAC Explores Business Opportunities in Social Media

Final year students from Caribbean Institute of Media and Communication (CARIMAC) at The UWI, Mona will on Thursday, November 29 stage ‘CLICK: Sign in to Cash in’, a social media seminar aimed at exposing students to entrepreneurial opportunities in the virtual world.
 
 
The seminar, organised by the Public Relations Class 2013, will be held inside the CARIMAC Annex Lecture Room, The UWI, Mona from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The execution seminar is part of the students’ final assessment grade which provides the students with an opportunity to put into practice the theoretic lessons learnt.
 
 

UWI Open Campus Public Lecture Examines Children’s Rights, Gang Culture and Citizenship

The Caribbean Child Development Centre (CCDC) at the Open Campus, The UWI in partnership with the Childhood and Youth Research Institute at the Anglia Ruskin University in England, will present a special public lecture entitled, “Children’s Rights, Gang Culture and Citizenship: Empowerment and Inclusion Towards Reducing Youth Gang Culture”. The public lecture takes place on Thursday, November 29, 2012 beginning at 3:30 p.m. at Undercroft, UWI, Mona. 
 

Professor Carolyn Cooper to Deliver 6th Edward Baugh Distinguished Lecture

The sixth annual Edward Baugh Lecture which will be delivered by Professor Carolyn Cooper is entitled, “Islands Beyond Envy: Finding Our Tongue in the Creole-Anglophone Caribbean”.  The Lecture is scheduled to take place on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 6:00pm at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts, The UWI, Mona.  The university and the public are invited to attend.
 
 

Caribbean Set for 7th UWI/Pelican Volleyball Tournament

The Caribbean nations of Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas and the Cayman Island are expected to be represented at the 7th UWI/Pelican Volleyball Invitational slated for Friday, November 16 to Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the UWI Gymnasium at the Mona Bowl. 
 
Technocrats Volleyball Club ‘A’ and ‘B’ male teams and female team ‘A’ will be representing the twin island republic Trinidad & Tobago. A The Cayman Select Team and a Caribbean Select Team round out the regional squads for the annual tournament, which has become a staple of the national sports calendar drawing attention due to the usually high quality of play. Dalton Myers, Director of Sports at UWI says “It is truly representative of that UWI Mona spirit of excellence, determination and vibes”. 

Edward Baugh Lecture 2012

“Islands Beyond Envy: Finding Our Tongue in the Creole-Anglophone Caribbean” is the title of this year’s Edward Baugh Lecture. Professor Carolyn Cooper, Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies at UWI, Mona will deliver the Lecture. The event is slated for Thursday, November 29, 2012 at 6 pm at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts (PSCCA), The UWI, Mona. 
 
The university community and the public are invited. 
 

Economics Public Lecture Explores Regulatory Reform

The Department of Economics at UWI, Mona will host a public lecture entitled, “Regulatory Reform: Assessing the Evidence. Professor Colin Kirkpatrick of the University of Manchester will speak on this occasion. The Lecture is slated for Thursday, November 15, 2012 at 5:30 pm at GLT 3. 
 
The university community and the public are invited to attend. 
 

Philosophy Day at UWI, Mona

The Department of Language, Linguistics and Philosophy celebrates UWI/ UNESCO Philosophy Day on Thursday, November 15, 2012. The Day will entail several activities including an exhibition starting at 10 am at the Humanities and Education Courtyard which will showcase the different areas of Philosophy and its societal contribution.
 

Chemistry Lecture- New Materials for the 21st Century

“New Materials for the 21st Century” is the title of the public lecture being organised by the Department of Chemistry, UWI, Mona and CARISCIENCE on Friday, November 9, 2012 at 5:00 pm at the Chemistry Lecture Theatre 5 (C5). Professor Anthony Cheetham will deliver the Lecture. Professor Cheetham is Goldsmiths' Professor of Materials Science in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom.  He has broad research interests in Materials Chemistry and over the last 30 years has published well over 500 journal articles focused on nanoporous and open framework materials for hydrogen storage, novel light-conversion materials for applications in solid-state lighting (LEDs), displays, photovoltaic devices (solar cells) and photocatalysis.

UWI Energy Lecture Explores a Coherent Renewable Energy Policy

The Department of Physics at The UWI, Mona hosts the tenth lecture in the Climate Energy Nexus: Call to Action Lecture Series. This week’s lecture is entitled, ‘The Urgent Imperative of a Coherent Renewable Energy Policy’. Mr. Gerald C. Lindo, the Senior Energy Engineer at the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining will deliver the lecture on Tuesday October 30, 2012 at 5:30pm in the Physics Lecture Rm B at the UWI, Mona Campus.
 
The lecture is the tenth of a 12 part monthly lecture series 'Climate Energy Nexus: Call to Action' which will examine the intersection points between Energy and Climate.

Five to Receive VC Award for Excellence at 2012 Ceremony

Five members of the academic staff at the Cave Hill, Mona and St. Augustine Campuses of UWI will receive the prestigious 2011/12 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence. This year’s Ceremony will be held at the Mona Campus on Monday, October 29 at 6 pm at the Mona Visitors’ Lodge and Conference Centre.
