Mona Information Technology Services

About Us

General

History

Mona Information Technology Services (MITS) was established as a Department of the Mona Campus in August 2000 in response to a felt need for IT services located in one central body. The first year of the three year implementation plan for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) on the Mona Campus was focused on strengthening the ICT infrastructure and providing the hardware and software tools to faculties and administration. See mission statement.

Our staff is organised into four functional units namely Applications, Infrastructure, Instruction Support Services and User Support Services as well as an Administration section (Office of the C.I.O.). We are also actively engaged in the employment of students on a part-time basis.

Goals

  • Increasing the awareness of management, executives, and lecturers and administrators of the power of ICT and its possibilities for the Institution
  • Strengthening and preserving institutional memory.
  • Providing an environment for constant learning in the use of ICT by the Campus.
  • Providing a secure and continuously available ICT infrastructure that is responsive to the institutions needs.
  • Strengthening the capacity within each faculty and Administrative department to manage the effective use of ICT for teaching, learning, and research and administration.
  • Continuously improving the technical competencies and capabilities of the MITS team.
  • Responsiveness to students' needs for ICT in facilitation of their learning experience.
  • Keeping the IT infrastructure up to date.
  • Supporting linkages of the Mona Campus with the wider community including primary and tertiary institutions, the public and private sector and civic society
