Wireless Services `Wireless

Definition:

A Wireless network utilizes radio waves and/or microwaves to maintain communication channels between computers.

MITS offers wireless internet access in certain areas of the campus. Signs are also posted in those areas indicating the presence of a wireless hotspot. The areas where hotspots can be found are listed below:

 

  • Main Library – Overnight Reading Room
  • CARIMAC (Caribbean Institute of Media & Communication)
  • UWIDEC (UWI Distance Education Centre)
  • MSB ( Mona School of Business)
  • Faculty of Humanities and Education – Main Office
  • Interfaculty Lecture Theatre Social Sciences Lecture Theatre
  • Chem5 Lecture Theatre Chemistry Labs and Lecture Rooms
  • Hopwood Centre Medical Library Bursary - Council Room MPH
  • (Master of Public Health) Human Resource
  • Department (Personnel Office)
  • MITS main building

 

The device, whether it be a (Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)/Cellular phone, Laptop, or Desktop etc.) must have Wi-Fi cards in order to connect to the wireless network. Once the wireless network has been detected, in order to gain access to the wireless service, users must be currently registered students or staff members of the University, as browsing is only allowed through a UWI_MONA domain login.
