Projects
The Mona Online Research database (MORD) http://mord.mona.uwi.edu/
The Library, Mona Campus was our client for the MORD project. This project was completed on schedule based on the initial requirements, and we are currently looking at a new look for the site as well as additional functionalities in the search arena. Incidentally, the MORD project, as a whole, won an ACURIL “Research , Content Driven Knowledge and Effective Access to Information” Award in June, 2007.
Aims of the system
- Produce visible output of faculty research from the Mona Campus since 1993
- Make it globally accessible on the Internet
- Have up-to-date information on all aspects of research at Mona that may be used by Campus administration in evaluation and assessment
- Generate statistics that can be used in University strategic planning and decision making exercises
- Identify research expertise of authors, which may be useful for consultancy purpose
The building blocks of the system
- The Main Library which provides Bibliographic information such as published/unpublished works, multimedia and patents.
- The PeopleSoft HR (Enterprise) system which provides a profile of the author, including their research interests, courses taught, language expertise, graduate advising and public service.
- The Banner Finance (Enterprise) system which completes the author’s profile in relation to funded projects e.g. research in progress, research grants and collaborative projects.
- Data collected by the Office of Sponsored Research regarding research proposals. At the time of implementation, OSR did not have a ‘formal’ system for data collection, and the data presented is incomplete. Ideally, a list of funding agencies and their inputs over the years would be visible via MORD as well.
