Online Assessment Centre (OLAC)
This is a set of systems covering the evaluation and assessment of courses and lecturers by students, and the assessment of ‘The Chair' including Deans and Heads of Department.
There may be several questionnaires currently used on campus for assessments, but the School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR) at the Mona campus has one (1) standard, approved form; and the Office of the Deputy Principal (ODP) has two (2) standard, approved forms for assessments – one for the Faculty of Medical Sciences and another for the all of the other faculties.
Aims of the system
- Reduce costs and manual input associated with the current paper-based systems. (ODP currently generates one printed label per lecturer per course per stream, pack assessment forms into an envelope - one per lecturer per course per stream, walk around campus to deliver then collect envelopes from the departments then submit them to MITS; they then return to MITS for the completed reports and deliver same to the departments.)
- Provide staff and students with ready access to the relevant forms for each of the systems.
- Eventually, to collect the assessment data online, i.e. have persons respond to the questionnaires online.
- Deliver reports to the lecturers and Heads of Department in real time, online (once we have overcome issues associated with the previous item).
Building Blocks of the system
- Banner Student Administration system for validation of students
- Student Records for students' courses
- PeopleSoft HR system for validation of staff and for reporting (organization chart) associations
- Course coordinators, SGSR and ODP offices to use this system to enter data for lecturers' course assignments
