Mission Statement

The Department aims to
  • provide appropriate courses in Modern Languages & Literatures to a diverse range of students with varied qualifications and educational backgrounds.
  • develop in students an understanding of and respect for the cultures of the societies where the languages are spoken.
  • develop students' disposition and confidence to use the Foreign language to communicate in a variety of practical, real life situations.
  • create different language competences for different purposes.
  • foster the intellectual development of students by encouraging critical analysis and independent thought.

This Departmental Pamphlet is intended for the guidance of students pursuing courses in Spanish, French, Japanese and Comparative Caribbean Literature at the UWI, Mona Campus.
