Entrepreneurship Programme Fact Sheet
The Vincent HoSang
Entrepreneurship Incubation Programme is an initiative sponsored
by a prominent and successful Jamaican entrepreneur and designed
to encourage students and researchers in the UWI community to
act on their energy, ideas and talents to produce the innovative
companies of tomorrow.
The programme will
match entrants with successful business people that share a
common interest and have the skills, contacts or insights to
help them with the development of their business plan. The goal
is to provide a unique learning experience for the participants
who will have the opportunity to launch their own companies
while participating in the exercise.
The Selection Process
The programme begins with the Vincent Hosang
Entrepreneurship Selection Round which is opened to final year
undergraduate students, graduate students and researchers at the
UWI Mona campus. The selection will be staged in two phases:
The Preliminary Selection Round
Individuals or groups of students or researchers
interested in participating will be invited to submit a business
plan of their business idea.
Guide for the
Business Plan:-

Plan should be no
more than 40 pages
-
The narrative
should not be more than 20 pages including the executive
Summary, which should be 3 pages or less
-
Include a brief
biographical sketch of each team member.
The judges will
review these plans and select feasible projects.
Interview: Selected
entrants will be invited to an interview session lasting 15
minutes to answer questions from the judges and to provide
additional information on their proposed ventures.
The Final Selection Round
The selected entrants from the preliminary round will be
identified and given six weeks to submit their completed
business plans. The judges will select the participants for the
Vincent HoSang programme.
Incubation
Workshops
During incubation the programme will sponsor workshops to
help students learn the skills needed to start a company. These
workshops will include sessions on

Writing Skills for
Business Plans

Oral Presentation
Skills.
Programme Funding
The funds donated by
Vincent HoSang to the Programme will be used for the teams to
develop their project into viable economically feasible
ventures. The Programme funds will be disbursed according to the
identified needs of each team. Financial assistance will
attempt to meet such needs as:

Coaching Sessions
for the improvement of the business plans

Accommodations for
Team meetings with external advisors
-
Incorporation of
companies
-
Technical
assistance specific to the needs of the venture
-
Market research
Additional Funding
Additional funds will
be sourced from the private sector to increase the Programme’s
financial resources.
Mentors
Each team will be assigned to a mentor who will provide
assistance with the preparation of their business plans and with
the development of their ventures.
Networking Events
Several events will be staged with the objective of
facilitating team interaction with important resource persons.
Investor Presentation
Potential investors will be invited to view the ventures
developed by the teams. The teams will be assisted with the
complete analysis and preparation of their venture. They will be
coached to enhance their oral presentation skills with an
objective of gaining the interest of potential investors. This
even also presents an opportunity for teams to network with
experiences business owners and benefit from the appropriate
blend of technical and management experience and interests.
