The UWI, Mona Signs Housing Contract Projected to Save J$100 million Annually

As a strategic initiative to generate revenue for the campus, The University of the West Indies, Mona, hosted the official contract signing ceremony for the College Common Housing Project on Monday, April 8, 2024. The project, aimed at generating J$100 million annually in savings will see the campus renovating 44 housing units to host its faculty and staff.

These professors have dedicated their careers to conducting research in various fields such as curriculum, teacher preparation, and school leadership, mental wellness, body image and disordered eating in Caribbean and cross-national contexts, and sustainable construction.

Chairman of Operation RTG, Dennis Cohen after consultation with Campus Principal, Professor Densil Williams, is pleased to announce the addition of Mr. Joe Taffe to the Steering Committee in his role as Deputy Chairman. Mr. Taffe brings to the table a tremendous amount of experience as a seasoned audit and accounting professional who had a successful career in the private sector working for firms such as PricewaterhouseCoopers and GraceKennedy Limited.

Dr. Simone Badal to present Groundbreaking Breast Cancer Research at Major US Conference

Researchers at The UWI Mona have achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against breast cancer. An abstract of this groundbreaking study on novel Black breast cancer cell lines has been accepted for presentation at the prestigious American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Conference, scheduled for April 5-10 at the San Diego Convention Centre in California. The abstract will be published in leading Cancer journal, Cancer Research with an impact factor of 12.701.

The UWI Mona is thrilled to announce that Dr. Simone Badal, Senior Lecturer and Anticancer Researcher,  has been selected among 25 scientists worldwide for the inaugural Rising Scholars: Breast Cancer programme.

The Springer Nature and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) made the announcement in a press statement on March 26, 2024. This prestigious programme, a partnership between Nature Portfolio and BCRF, provides Early Career Researchers (ECRs) working in the field of cancer research with valuable resources for professional development and career advancement.

Seventeen-year old Shaqane Greene of Mona High School appears to have his sights set on competing at an Olympic Game in the near future. Shaqane’s interest was piqued after he was selected to lead the Jamaican leg of the 3rd edition of the Relay around the World on March 14th, 2024, as part of the run-up to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
