The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, Mona (The UWI) proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot from the Department of Chemistry and Dr. Nagarani Ponakala from the Department of Mathematics as Fellows of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS). The announcement took place during the Biennial CAS Conference in Trinidad on November 25, 2023 and was followed by a Handover Ceremony on December 14, 2023 on the Mona campus, where Professor Anthony Clayton, a current CAS Fellow, presented them their certificates.

“Our Mission is to be the ‘Knowledge Powerhouse for Human Capital Development in Jamaica and the wider World, that will facilitate a National Innovation Eco-system fit for purpose for a 21st Century Society and Economy,”’ these were among the powerful words used by Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Densil A. Williams as he outlined his vision for The UWI Mona at the first press conference for 2024.

The “One-UWI Postgraduate Student Conference" is thrilled to announce the outstanding Oral Presentations that captivated attendees during the recently concluded three-day online event hosted by the School for Graduate Studies and Research (SGSR).

Professor Sir Kenneth Octavius Hall expressed his deep gratitude and pride during a commemoration ceremony where the university honoured him by renaming the Mona Campus Annex Building to the Kenneth Hall Administration Building. The event brought together former colleagues, years-long friends, and esteemed guests to celebrate the remarkable legacy of The Most Honourable Professor, Sir Kenneth Octavius Hall, ON, GCMG, OJ.
 

The Faculty of Science and Technology at The University of the West Indies, (UWI) Mona, will be introducing a new course aimed at equipping students with a broad foundation in the burgeoning field of electric mobility. Commencing in Semester 2 of the Academic Year 2023-2024, the Faculty will be offering “Electric Mobility - Fundamentals of EV Technologies.” Considered a pioneering initiative, this new offering seeks to expose UWI graduates to the future of sustainable transportation.

In one of the most comprehensive scholarly works of its kind within the region, Vice-Chancellor of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Professor Sir Hilary Beckles has been honoured for his distinguished contributions to academia and as a social justice advocate and administrator.

Dozens of academics including fellow historians from across the globe have contributed 41 articles to the near 1150-page festschrift, a commemorative volume of writings by various authors and presented to the scholar as a tribute.
