Terms and Conditions for the Special New Initiative Grants
The Strategic Transformation Team (STT) has invested new funds in the New Initiative Programme to support the three areas outlined below. Please note that the maximum amount of funding available under the Special New Initiative Grants is J$250,000.
Pump Priming Grants
Because of difficulties with funding and recruitment, staff members have had their research efforts affected by:
- a lack of time due to heavy teaching loads and/or schedules; and,
- a lack of small amounts of funding needed to push key experiments or scholarly activities to levels of tangible deliverables (e.g. papers, books and funding proposals).
Applications for small grants which could alleviate these problems and facilitate output of important results will be supported.
Preliminary research on Major Research Question Grants
Grants are available for researchers seeking to get into major research areas, but who are hampered by the lack of preliminary results that define the possibilities upon which major funding research proposals or research questions could be based.
Thus applicants seeking grant funding to explore important scholastic areas with a view of future intense research activity or funding proposal preparation will be supported.
Promising New or Junior Academic Staff
Promising new or junior academic staff members who are seeking to initiate their research career at UWI Mona or to translate their thesis into their first book may apply to this programme for teaching relief funds.
