**The MLIS are for graduates with a first degree in any other discipline and no prior knowledge in Library & Information Studies. The MA-LIS is for graduates with a Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Studies. Both the full-time and part-time programmes are offered during the day only .

***MA (part-time) LINGUISTICS (Summer) courses will be offered full time during July – August 2005. Students coming into this programme are expected to be available during the months of July – August over three summers.

The School of Education invites applicants with a first degree (at least an Upper Second Class Honours) and teacher training, for the programme leading to the MEd on a part-time basis. Applicants with a Lower Second Class or pass degree will be considered only in exceptional cases where the candidate's professional experience and performance suggest further intellectual development.

LEADERSHIP IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT MA STUDENT PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATION
 

MASTER OF ARTS IN TEACHING (MAT)* – Tracks 1 and 3 only.

Track 1 will train participants to prepare students for CXC, CAPE and advanced Level examinations in the area of specialization. Track 3 will train participants to deliver general training programmes in the non-formal and private education sectors.

This offering will be available to holders of an honours degree at the Bachelor's level. At the end of the first year of this programme, candidates will have the option of terminating and will receive the Graduate Diploma in Education. Persons who opt to complete the second year will be awarded the Master of Arts in Teaching.

THE UWI SCHOOL OF NURSING

The following Master of Science (Nursing) degree programmes are offered on a full-time/part-time basis:

MScN specializing in Mental Health/Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Nursing Education, Nursing Administration and Clinical Nurse Specialist.

  TROPICAL MEDICINE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

MSc, MPhil and PhD degrees in Nutrition. These programmes provide training in the theoretical and practical aspects of human nutrition, with special reference to the problems and needs of the Caribbean . The programmes are open to graduates with a Bachelor's degree in biological science, or in chemistry or other subjects acceptable to the Faculty of Medical Sciences.

The MSc Epidemiology Programme accepts graduates in medicine and dentistry and persons with Bachelor's degrees (with second class honours or higher) in health sciences, pure applies sciences or social sciences. In addition to the fundamentals of epidemiology and biostatistics, the programme includes training in infectious disease epidemiology, chronic disease epidemiology, health services research, ethics and data management.

ECONOMICS

MSc Economics with specializations in: Financial Economics, Monetary Economics, International Economics, Economic Development and Game Theory.

International Economics & International Law provides students with the skills necessary for economic analysis of international trade issues, an understanding of the principles and practice of international law and exposure to recent developments in international trade policy and theory.

GOVERNMENT

With options in Public Administration, Comparative Politics/Political Theory and International Relations.

Sociology, Pshycology, and Social Welfare

MSc Sociology with options in Sociology of Development, Social Policy and Social

AND Anthropology. (Persons without relevant Sociology undergraduate courses may be required to do the Diploma in Sociology to qualify) .

 

Master of Social Work (MSW) with specializations in Administration and Management of Human Services; Clinical Social Work Practice; Community Organization and Policy Practice; or an Advanced Generalist Social Work Practice degree where students can select courses to suit their needs across more than one Field of Specialization. (Persons with an undergraduate degree from another discipline other than social work would not qualify for acceptance into this programme. They would be required to do the undergraduate Diploma in Social Work following which they may apply for admission to the graduate programme) . All applications must include a resumé.

  GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants to the above mentioned graduate programmes must satisfy the general University Regulations governing admission to a Higher Degree and should possess an Honours degree.

The norm for admission to the MPhil is a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree. Applicants with an Honours classification of Second Class (Lower Division) will require a special recommendation by the Head of Department and may require sitting a qualifying examination.

TAUGHT MASTER'S DEGREE

The minimum requirement for admission to a taught master's degree shall normally be a Lower Second Class Honours degree or its equivalent. You should also see specific Departmental requirements.

    PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Graduates should request degree granting institutions, other than UWI, to forward their official transcript directly to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, Mona Campus as soon as possible.
  • References, statements of intent, and all other relevant documents must be submitted to the Office of Graduates Studies and Research at the time of application. Applications will not be considered without the relevant documents.
  • The deadline for the receipt of completed application forms is January 31, 2008.
  • Final year students are advised to apply for entry to the programme of their choice before January 31 deadline.
  • Details of all programmes are available from the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus, Kingston 7, Jamaica , W.I, Cave Hill , Barbados or St. Augustine , Trinidad .
  • Each Applicant is allowed to apply to only one programme offered by The University of the West Indies in any one year.
