Year 1

FD10A - English for Academic Purposes
This is a cross-disciplinary course, which is designed to provide a firm base for Communications Courses and for Courses in English for special purposes linked with specific disciplines.

ED20Y – Introduction to Computers in Education
In this course students will be able to acquire knowledge of computer, how the computer affects teaching and learning. It will also enable them to use the computer as a tool for manipulation of text, numbers and graphics; creating presentations; publishing; and information transfer.

ED24E - The Psychology of Science Teaching and Learning
This course is designed to enable participants to understand and critique some of the relatively long-standing and contemporary psychological theories that underpin students’ cognitive development as well as their practical implications for the effective teaching and learning of science.

UC010 - Fundamentals of Written English
A compulsory remedial course for those persons who failed the English Proficiency Test.

P14A - Introductory Physics A
Pre-requisite: P04A and P04B or GCE "A" Level Physics or CXC Physics plus GCE "A" Level Mathematics or M08B &M08C
This is a calculus course covering the basic laws and phenomena in Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Waves and Optics.

ED24G – Teaching Methodologies in Science
This course encourages teachers to take a critical look at their own practice and exposes them to a range of teaching strategies that are available for use in the science classroom.


Year 2

ED34J - The Sociology of Science Teaching and Learning
This course seeks to deepen participants’ understanding of some of the sociological factors that influence science curriculum content, the nature of science classroom communication and interactions and their practical implications for the teaching and learning of science.

ED20X – Issues and Perspectives in Education
This course seeks to develop the students’ understanding of the interplay of forces, which affect teaching and learning and influence educational practice and policy. Students should thereby come to appreciate the critical and dynamic role they play as the educators of the citizens of tomorrow.

P14B - Introductory Physics B
Pre-requisite: P04A and P04B or GCE "A" Level Physics or CXC Physics plus GCE "A" Level Math or M08B and M08C
This is a calculus course covering the basic laws and phenomena in Electricity and Magnetism, AC Theory and Electronics and Modern Physics.

FD13A - Law, Governance, Economy and Society in the Caribbean
This is a multi-disciplinary course of the Faculty of Social Sciences. It will introduce students to some of the major institutions in Caribbean society. This exposure is to both the historical and contemporary aspects of Caribbean society, including Caribbean legal, political and economic systems. In addition, Caribbean culture and Caribbean social problems are discussed.

ED34C - Assessment of Science Teaching
This course provides an opportunity for equipping the secondary school science teacher to be acquainted with the assessment possibilities that exist and be proficient at using each type of assessment strategy to enhance learning in the classroom.


Year 3

ED34A - Selected Topics in Science
It is hoped that this course will raise the students’ knowledge of the physical sciences and enhance their teaching competence.

P - General Physics or Electronics

ED34Q - An Introduction to Secondary School Science Practical
This course is intended to equip teachers with the skills to conduct practical work in schools with special emphasis on the school-based assessment for the CXC science subjects.

ED30Z - Investigating our Teaching [Part 1]
This course is designed to aid in the understanding of the role of the teacher as a learner, researcher, self-evaluator and reflective practitioner. It provides an opportunity for students to apply their know-ledge of the teaching learning process in implementing an innovative teaching experiment to address a problem in their classrooms, to reflect critically on the experience and to write a report, which informs their future practice.


Year 4

ED30Z - Investigating our Teaching [Part 2]
This course is designed to aid in the understanding of the role of the teacher as a learner, researcher, self-evaluator and reflective practitioner. It provides an opportunity for students to apply their know-ledge of the teaching learning process in implementing an innovative teaching experiment to address a problem in their classrooms, to reflect critically on the experience and to write a report, which informs their future practice.
