Call For Scholarship Applications to the OAS-UWI 75th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship Fund (“CSF”)

2023 marked the 75th anniversary of both the Organization of American States (OAS) and The University of the West Indies (UWI). The Office of the General Secretariat of the OAS (GS/OAS) in Jamaica and the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) of the UWI, Mona campus therefore commemorated the Diamond Jubilee through various activities including the creation of the OAS-UWI 75th Anniversary Commemorative Scholarship Fund (CSF).

 

About the Scholarships

Scholarships of up to JM$300,000, per year, will be available to cover the cost of tuition and/ or housing at UWI, Mona. Students may apply for this complementary scholarship from the CSF to complete the final year of their degree program in the FSS, UWI Mona Campus, by submitting completed applications to the UWI, Mona Campus, Office of Student Financing (OSF) Scholarships & Bursaries | Office of Student Financing (uwi.edu).

Once selected for a CSF scholarship, students will have to accept, in writing, the scholarship offer from the UWI, Mona OSF, and by signing and returning to the GS/OAS Office in Jamaica, a scholarship agreement with the OAS. Additional OAS funding is available through the OAS-UWI scholarships OAS: Scholarships Students in need of additional funds will have to apply directly to those OAS-UWI scholarships for funding, in addition to the CSF scholarship.

 

Eligibility Requirements

1. Scholarship applicants must be nationals of OAS : Member States

2. Applicants must be enrolled in the final academic year of their Undergraduate Academic Programmes | The Faculty of Social Sciences (uwi.edu) at the Faculty of Social Sciences, UWI Mona.

3. Applicants must submit completed applications to the UWI Office of Student Financing (OSF) by the May 31, 2024, application deadline.

4. Applicants must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. 5. Applicants must show financial need.

 

Application packages must include all of the following:

1. A one-page cover letter (typed single spaced) describing the applicant’s financial need and academic performance.

2. A letter from the UWI, Mona, Admissions Office certifying that the scholarship applicant is enrolled in a degree program of the Faculty of Social Sciences and about to start the last year of the academic program.

3. “Unofficial” transcript with GPA (which will be verified by the UWI OSF).
