  • UWI Pelican 'smashes' to victory in Intercollegiate Badminton Championship

The Mona Pelicans from Kingston Jamaica proved too hot for the ladies of Northern Caribbean University (NCU) out of cool, cool Manchester when they faced off in the finals of the Intercollegiate Badminton Championships 2012 on November 29, 2012. The action on mid court got on the way to a smashing start and proved to be a display of Badminton prowess; one might add that it was a match worthy of a final although the score line tells a different story.

The UWI Mona Pelicans who had journeyed from Kingston to NCU had no intention to return home empty handed, and that they did not, the Pelicans flicked, smashed, rallied to a 3-1 victory over NCU in an ardent display of prowess, Pelican Ruth Williams was declared Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match.

The 2012 Intercollegiate Team comprised of Mikaylia Haldane, Ashauna Davis, Kerrian Foster, Juett Carty, Ruth Williams, Allison Henry and Shanice Henry.
