SECTION 2: COURSE SUPPORT INCLUDING TEACHING MATERIALS AND BOOKS:
1. Our Website (www.uwimona.jm.edu/uds/index.html) will be used to support the teaching of the course. It has been designed accordingly.
2. OAS Primer on Natural Hazards (1991) will be used as a model text. Some 10 copies are available in the UWI Science Library.
3. Orders have been placed for books and other materials.
4. Geography and Geology staff and guest lecturers will be involved in the teaching.
ALL THE LABORATORY WORK WILL BE GRADED AND SHALL CONTRIBUTE TO THE 40% MARKS RESERVED FOR COURSE WORK.
In week 5 there will be a 2-hr. theory exam. The exam answer books will be marked within a week of the examination and results prepared.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE COURSE:
(1) THEORY PAPER INCLUDES ALL THE TOPICS COVERED.
(2) ALL LABORATORY ASSIGNMENTS/ PROJECT REPORTS/ORAL PRESENTATIONS WILL BE GRADED. MARKS OBTAINED FOR THE ABOVE WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE FINAL 40% COURSE MARKS FOR THIS COURSE.
(3) YOU MUST SUBMIT THE ASSIGNMENTS TO LECTURERS IN A FOLDER AT THE END OF EACH LAB. SESSION.
(4) PROJECT TOPICS WILL BE ASSIGNED DURING EARLY PART OF THE COURSE.
(5) PROJECT WORK MUST BE COMPLETED DURING THE LAB. SESSIONS AND A REPORT SUBMITTED. THIS REPORT MUST NOT EXCEED 10 TYPED PAGES (FONT SIZE 12 NORMAL, AND DOUBLE SPACED) EXCLUDING ILLUSTRATIONS.
(6) A SHORT ORAL PRESENTATION ON THE PROJECT IS TO BE MADE.
YOU MUST ENSURE THAT VARIOUS ASSIGNMENTS ARE NEATLY PRESENTED, PAGINATED, ARE COMPLETE, AND PROPERLY DOCUMENTED.
