Health Care Facilities
All duly registered students of the University of the West Indies, Western Campus, will be eligible to receive medical and counselling services under the UWI Students’ Health Plan. The arrangements for the provision of these services are as follows:
- All benefits will be in accordance with the UWI Students’ Health Plan which currently has Blue Cross of Jamaica as the provider. Each student will be enrolled on the plan and issued a swipe card.
- Basic consultations and counselling services will be provided at the Montego Bay Hospital and Urology Centre (MBHUC), 1 Mount Salem Main Road, Montego Bay. All laboratory and imagining investigations will be done there. This facility is open 24 hours, seven days per week.
- The medical doctor at this medical facility will refer students to the Cornwall Regional Hospital (CRH) for additional treatment, when necessary.
- The counsellor will be located at Suite 36, Montego Bay Freeport Shopping Centre. Please call 877– 6733 for appointments.
- Prescriptions written by the medical doctor from the medical facility or the CRH may be filled at the J&J pharmacy at 82 Barnett Street, Montego Bay.
- MBHUC will maintain a detailed medical record for each student seen under this arrangement and provide duplicates and updates of these records to the University Health Centre at Mona
