Communication Studies (Master of Arts)

The Master of Arts (MA) in Communication Studies provides a postgraduate framework for the development of greater analytical and research capabilities in communication scholarship and practice. It targets professionals seeking to expand their competencies in the industry. Graduates of the MA in Communication Studies should:

  1. understand traditional and emerging communication and media theory.
  2. apply a variety of theoretical and conceptual tools in diverse communication contexts.
  3. use appropriate communication and media research methods in their practice.
  4. critically evaluate and interpret communication theories and research data.
  5. apply their theoretical and practical skills to the achievement of personal and professional goals.
  6. appreciate the main communication issues affecting human and social development in a Caribbean context.
  7. be critical consumers and producers of communication artefacts.
  8. appreciate the dynamic nature of information sharing and communication in a transmedia environment.

Programme Structure

The MA in Communication Studies is a two-year programme offering 36 credits. Students must register for at least two courses per semester. Students may also register for the summer semester. Depending on the total number of courses taken per semester, students may complete the programme in 18 months.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should have at least a Second Class Honours Degree from a recognized University, or other academic or professional qualifications deemed to be equivalent, by the Admissions Committee.
