The University of the West Indies Library & Information Student Society (UWI-LISS) is a society largely comprising students from the Department of Library and Information Studies (DLIS) at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. The Society operates from the DLIS Mona Campus, Jamaica.

The purpose of the organization is to provide and promote opportunities for library and information studies students to mature within the field and to make an impact on their surrounding communities. 

The society’s goals as outlined in its constitution are:

  • To provide varied library and information related experiences geared towards the development of students in the field;
  • To provide a forum for sharing and learning about trends and issues in the field;
  • To provide opportunities to meet other persons engaged in or interested in the many facets of librarianship;
  • To promote a wider knowledge of library associations locally, regionally and internationally;
  • To provide opportunities for library and information students to make an impact in surrounding communities. 

The society is primarily affiliated with the Department of Library & Information Studies (DLIS) at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus as well as the following bodies.

  • Library and Information Association of Jamaica (LIAJA),
  • Association of Librarians in the Jamaica Library Service (ALJALS),
  • Association of Caribbean University Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL),
  • the Library Association of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT),
  • the Library Association of Barbados (LAB)
  • Other library and information associations in the Caribbean and the rest of the world.
