About Us

 

 

 

 

The main responsibilities of the Earthquake Unit are to:


scribble as bullet  Operate and manage the Jamaica Seismograph Network (JSN) which consists of twelve (12) stations and eight (8) accelerographs

scribble as bullet  Maintain a database of all earthquakes recorded by the JSN

scribble as bullet  Inform the public about earthquakes felt in Jamaica

scribble as bullet  Collect information about earthquakes felt in Jamaica

scribble as bullet  Conduct research on the seismicity, seismic hazard, current tectonic activity, site response and vibration analysis

scribble as bullet  Serve as Jamaica's National Data Centre for the Comprehensive (Nuclear) Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO) International Data Centre

scribble as bullet  Welcome visits from schools or community groups. (We are located between the Departments of Chemistry and Physics and below the Electronics Unit.)
