The Electronics Unit was established as a separate Unit of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in 1976. The Unit was assigned the principal task of maintaining the electronic instruments and electromechanical equipment used for teaching and research by the Faculties of Pure and Applied Sciences (formerly Natural Sciences), and the Medical Sciences.
Over the last 30 years, the U.W.I. has experienced great technological development evident by the type of sophisticated instrumentation systems and computers used in teaching and research endeavours . This overall growth of the campus and local industry has caused the level of expertise in the Unit to evolve into new and innovative areas of technology. In addition, the unit has also diversified its services to include electrical works as the technologies in this field are increasingly crossing over to related areas of electronics. |
