In the month of June, members of the technical team of the Estate Management Department will be carrying out our first annual building inspection, campus-wide. This exercise is intended to ensure that adequate measures are in place to protect life and ensure the safety of all users of UWI’s buildings. Among the spaces that will be visited by the EMD are laboratories. Checks will encompass both a general and hazard checklist, to include:
This inspection will allow us to establish planned maintenance programmes to ensure optimal life of equipment. Where important building components, such as ramps for the disabled, are absent, plans will be put in place to ensure that this requirement is met.
