Professor Vandebroek to attend National Geographic Society's Caribbean Explorer Retreat

Huge congratulations to Professor Ina Vandebroek on being selected to participate in the National Geographic Society's Caribbean Explorer Retreat to be hosted in Barbados from November 13-16, 2025. This prestigious opportunity will bring together approximately 25 explorers with strong ties to the Caribbean region to share knowledge, skills, and experiences.

As a renowned ethnobotanist at the Caribbean Centre for Research in Bioscience, Faculty of Science and Technology, The University of the West Indies, Mona, Professor Vandebroek's work focuses on the interconnectedness of Caribbean biological and cultural diversity. Her projects aim to understand patterns of community-based traditional knowledge about the environment and cultural plant use across space and time.

This retreat will provide a platform for Dr. Vandebroek to:
Share Expertise: Collaborate with fellow explorers and share knowledge on topics such as conservation, sustainability, and cultural heritage.
Build Connections: Build connections with a cohort of fellow Explorers who have strong ties to the Caribbean Islands and who are interested in ongoing participation in National Geographic’s Caribbean Explorer Hub.
Advance Research: Learn about the National Geographic Society's initiatives and explore opportunities for future research and projects.

Professor Vandebroek looks forward to meeting the other Caribbean explorers

The retreat is sponsored by National Geographic.
