The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, Mona Campus extends warm congratulations to Dr. Andrea Goldson-Barnaby, Senior Lecturer, Department of Chemistry, on her election as a ‘Fellow’ of the Caribbean Academy of Sciences (CAS). This appoitment recognizes her outstanding contribution to science and her ongoing service to the Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Jamaica Chapter (CASJ).
Dr. Goldson-Barnaby was elected a ‘Fellow’ on July 4, 2025, and officially recognized on July 22, 2025. Her election highlights years of impactful work in scientific research, mentorship, and leadership within the Caribbean’s scientific community.
A member of CASJ since 2018, Dr. Goldson-Barnaby has served in several important roles, including Director of the CASJ Chapter (2020) and Editor of the Food Safety Newsletter (2019 - present). In November 2019, she was invited by Professor Dasgupta (former CAS Director) to take up the editorship of the newly launched Food Safety Newsletter. This followed years of collaboration through CASJ, including her participation as a speaker at the Food Safety Forum (April 2019). The event was hosted in partnership with the National Agricultural Health and Food Safety Coordinating Committee (NAHFSCC), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), and the Pesticide Research Laboratory (PRL).
Throughout her involvement with CASJ, Dr. Goldson-Barnaby has helped to organize impactful events, provided guidance to young scientists, and represented the organization at professional gatherings. Her efforts have strengthened the Academy’s visibility and role in supporting scientific development across the region.
The Caribbean Academy of Sciences is an independent regional body that promotes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through advocacy, education, and collaboration, while representing the Caribbean on the international stage.
The Faculty of Science and Technology proudly salutes Dr. Andrea Goldson-Barnaby on this well-earned recognition. Her appointment brings to four the number of CAS Fellows appointed within the Faculty over the last two years - a reflection of the Faculty’s continued excellence in scientific research and service. The other appointees are Dr. Dwight Robinson, Dr. Nagarani Ponakala and Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot.
