FST Climate Scientist Dr. Jayaka Campbell Promoted to Senior Lecturer

The Faculty of Science and Technology is pleased to announce the promotion of Dr. Jayaka Campbell to Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physics at The University of the West Indies, Mona.
 
Since joining the Department in 2007, Dr. Campbell has served in several capacities, demonstrating excellence in teaching, research, and service. A passionate educator, he teaches courses in General Physics, Environmental Physics, Alternative Energy, and Electronics, consistently earning excellent student evaluations. His research spans regional climate modelling, renewable energy, computational physics, and IoT applications, resulting in over 38 publications, more than 1,800 citations, and over US$220,000 in research grants. He has also received notable awards, including two UWI Best Research Publication Awards and the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Globalization. As Coordinator of the MSc Renewable Energy Programme and Undergraduate Coordinator, Dr. Campbell has enhanced programme delivery, digital learning, and student engagement. His leadership extends to regional climate initiatives through the Climate Studies Group Mona and the Caribbean Climate Modelling Consortium, where he has trained over 70 professionals in climate model applications. Actively involved in national and regional committees, Dr. Campbell continues to contribute to advancing sustainable energy and climate resilience across the Caribbean. His promotion to Senior Lecturer is demonstrates his dedication, scholarly achievements, and impactful service to the University and the wider community.
