UWI-Mona Chemistry participates in inaugural Commonwealth Chemistry Congress

Several staff members, graduates and young scientists associated with the Department of Chemistry, The UWI –Mona, participated in the Inaugural Commonwealth Chemistry Congress held virtually in May 2021. The Federation of Commonwealth Chemical Sciences Societies (Commonwealth Chemistry) “celebrates and elevates the role and practice of the chemical sciences, to society and policymakers across the Commonwealth”. The objective of the organization is to “champion equal opportunity for all, drive innovation, and promote excellence in the chemical sciences for the benefit of the Commonwealth nations and their people”. Dr. Marvadeen Singh-Wilmot (Department of Chemistry) was a member of the organizing committee for the Congress and was featured in a short video compiled by Commonwealth Chemistry. She also delivered the closing speech of the congress. Other featured UWI-Mona speakers included Prof. Ishenkumba Kahwa (former Dean, FST) and Prof. Rupika Delgoda (Director, Natural Products Institute, NPI).
