Before You Arrive

We can't wait for you to join us here at the UWI, Mona Campus!

To familiarize yourself with the Mona Campus beforehand, ensure you read the Regional and International Student Handbook.

You should try to arrive at least two weeks before the semester begins to take part in special orientation, the ISO's Welcome and Orientation programme, and other activities including General Orientation, scheduled during the orientation week.

Your Checklist

See That You Have Completed the Following?

Accepted your offer; submitted all final outstanding documents to the University.

Organized you health and travel insurance (that is, if you wish for added coverage outside of the UWI, Mona's health insurance plan)

Note: All UWI, Mona students are covered under the University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) which is included as a part of your miscellaneous fees. 

Applied for your student visa (dependent on country you're from); applied for your new passport (if your passport has or is near to being expired).

Note: Your passport should be valid for at least up to the end of one academic year.

Applied for and secured accommodation (Click here to ownload application form for housing on or off-campus).

Made all your necessary travel arranagemnts—booked your flight to Jamaica in time for orientation, arranged airport pick-up with the Lodgings Office or ISO (When making your travel arrangements, you are advised to travel on a return and NOT a one-way ticket)

Note: If you are not going to be living in hall, you should arrange for transportation to your off-Campus residence.

Registered for your courses online

NOTE: You should also travel with proof of your admission to the University of the West Indies, Mona, your official Offer Letter from the University that you will need to show at the airport, as part of the landing requirement for non-nationals. At the airport you will be issued a temporary visitor’s visa which you will need to upgrade to a student visa later on. Read more on visa and immigration matters below.
