Exhibition to honour the New Principal of the Mona Campus, Professor McDonald Professor Archibald McDonald was formally inducted as Principal of The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus at a ceremony that took place on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in the Graduation Tent on the lawns of the Senate Building. ...more Professor McDonald served as Deputy Principal of Mona, and is the former Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Mona. He is a graduate of the UWI and received his postgraduate DM degree in 1987. He has had an outstanding career as a surgeon in Trauma and Emergency Medicine. He is credited with starting the first Accident and Emergency Department in Jamaica at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI). With colleagues, he established the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Programme in Jamaica and conducted seminal studies that defined the epidemiology of injury in Jamaica which led to development of Jamaica’s Injury Surveillance System. He has published some 125 papers and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. |

Exhibition for 100th anniversary of the birth of Jamaican author, V. S. Reid The University of the West Indies Mona Library marked the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jamaican author Victor Stafford Reid with an exhibition on his life and works. The Library also houses the Vic Reid Collection. In addition it contains research materials from 1947-1987 especially those relating to Norman Manley’ biography Horses of the Morning. |

Professor Stuart Hall 1932 - 2014A distinguished and well-respected thinker, theorist, sociologist, and political activist, Hall was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1932. He attended Jamaica College and in 1950 was the recipient of both the Jamaica and Rhodes scholarships. The exhibition highlights his high school accomplishments, his cultural and political activism in Britain, his scholarship, his impressive public service record, as well as his numerous honours and awards. The exhibition was originally mounted for the Centre for Caribbean Thought's Third Annual Conference in 2004 entitled "Culture, Politics, Race and Diaspora: the Thought of Stuart Hall”, It was remounted in his memory.
