Dr. André Coy, Lecturer in the Department of Physics will be launching his book entitled Emulating Human Speech Recognition : “A Scene Analysis Approach to Improving Robustness in Automatic Speech Recognition”  on December 6, 2012, 6:00pm at The University Bookshop.
 
Introductory remarks will be made by Dr. Donald Walwyn, former Head of the Department of Physics and Consultant to the Government on Telecommunications Policy. 
 
 At the  launch the wider use of Automatic speech recognition (ASR) to solve real-world problems will be explored. The use of the technology in the fields of literacy education, hearing loss and assistive technologies for the disabled are yet to be fully exploited and attendees will have the opportunity to hear about work being carried out at The UWI in some of these areas and discuss the untapped potential of speech recognition technology.
 
Limited copies of the book will be autographed by Dr. Coy.
