Law Lecture on Jamaica’s Business Climate by Numbers
Jamaica’s Business Climate by Numbers: The Role of the Legal System” is the title of the lecture being organized by the Faculty of Law, UWI, Mona. The Lecture is set for Monday, January 21, 2013 at 6 pm at the Faculty of Law. Professor Kevin Davis, Vice-Dean for Global Affairs and the Beller Family Professor of Business Law at New York University School of Law will share on this occasion.
Professor Davis will consider the external assessments of business climates of countries which increasingly take the form of quantitative indicators such as the World Bank’s Doing Business indicators and Transparency International’s Corruption Perceptions Index. They also often focus heavily on the performance of legal institutions. He will examine how these types of indicators are constructed and the measures that might improve Jamaica’s performance.
Damien King, Co-Executive Director of Caribbean Policy Research Institute (CaPRI) and Head, Department of Economics, The UWI, Mona and Eleanor Brown, Associate Professor of Law, George Washington University School of Law will offer comments on Professor Davis’ lecture.
