Hair Stories: Exploring Pervasive Attitudes towards Hair and Beauty Within Black Communities

The Dept of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work in celebration of Black History Month, presents a Symposium: Hair Stories: Exploring Pervasive Attitudes towards Hair and Beauty within Black Communities.
 
It will feature presentations by  Dr. Imani Tafari-Ama, (Author of the highly acclaimed Blood, Bullets and Bodies and part-time lecturer in Gender Studies, UWI), Dr. Clinton Hutton, Senior Lecturer in the Dept of Government, and  Dr. Christopher Charles, Lecturer in the Dept of Government. 
 
The examination of current attitudes towards Hair texture among Black Communities, a significant excerpt from the highly acclaimed documentary, ‘Good Hair’ produced by Chris Rock, will be screened at the forum.  The documentary, ‘Good Hair’ focuses on the aforementioned undeniable preoccupation with hair texture among Black Populations globally.
