Seminar on “The Natural History of the Honey Bee”
The Natural History Society of Jamaica will stage the Seminar Entitled: The Natural History of the Honey Bee by Dr. Eric Garraway, Senior Lecturer, Dept. Life Sci., UWI, Mona Have you ever wondered how bees actually make honey, or even why they make honey? How come honey doesn’t spoil? Why pollen sticks to bees more than any the other insects that visit flowers? Are Indian honey bees the same as Jamaican honey bees?
Did you know that honey bees are among nature’s best biomonitors? Have you heard of the honey bee hive collapse disorder? Did you know that the honey bee’s sting continue to pump venom into your flesh even after the bee has been removed? Did you know that the average honey bee takes up four or more professions during its life?
Dr. Garraway will take you into the fascinating world of the honey bees, answering many of your questions and perhaps leave you asking many more “curiosity questions”.
Refreshments; 6.00 p.m..
