On Campus radio show: Anti-cancer properties discovered in Purple yams; and an upcoming forum on addressing problems faced by yam farmers

The Biotechnology Centre at The UWI, Mona Campus has discovered the presence of anti-cancer properties in purple yams, and the yam extract is currently being considered for the award of a US patent. Dr Dennis Bailey made the discovery while conducting doctoral studies on indigenous varieties of yams cultivated in Jamaica and provides details in this week’s programme. We also hear from Professor Emeritus  Tara Dasgupta about  challenges with the production and export of yam which will be addressed at an upcoming forum being organized by the Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Jamaica, in collaboration with UWI’s Pesticide Research Laboratory, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
