 The fourth International Colloquium on Black Males in Education is being co-hosted by the Institute for Gender & Development Studies - Mona Unit at the University of the West Indies–Mona in collaboration with the University of Wisconsin's  Equity and Inclusion Laboratory (WeiLab).  

 

The Opening Ceremony will be held on October 7 2015 at 8:ooam at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. 

The theme of the 2015 Colloquium is : Creating Opportunity Through Education: Re-Engineering the Social Ecosystem for Black Males.

Talk of the Town

This is the closing ceremony which will include the presentation of Warrior Awards to a number of  individuals.

 

The Warrior Awards is an initiative of the University of Wisconsin’s Diversity and Inclusion Laboratory (WeiLab).  This is an international award and distinction given to individuals who have given longstanding service, commitment and leadership, focused on the most difficult challenges impacting black males in education globally.

 

Issues to be discussed  during the Colloquium:

Black males in education, is an on-going issue of concern for parents, policy makers, educators and development specialists locally, regionally and internationally.

Among the issues of concern are: low participation rates, academic underachievement, and the resulting high rates of crime, violence, incarceration, unemployment, homelessness, poverty, and ill-health.

This three day Colloquium will examine commonalities and differences in .Black males education experiences from local, regional and international perspectives,   and explore strategies, solutions and best practices .
