The Inaugural Mona Debates

The University of the West Indies, Office of the Principal, in conjunction with the Indian High Commission will be hosting the inaugural " Mona Debates" on Thursday, April 14 at 6:30 pm in the Faculty of Law , Lecture Room 2 . In recognition of UWI's partnership with the Indian High Commission, the moot is “Marginalized Jamaicans have Benefited from Independence”, a topic which was chosen to reflect and celebrate the 125th Birth Anniversary of the life of Dr. B R Ambedkar, popularly known as Babasaheb Ambedkar, an Indian legal and economic luminary who was born in extremely humble circumstances, but managed to become the first Law Minister and the drafter of that country’s constitution. The panelists are the Minister of Education, Mr. Ruel Reid, Reverend Garnett Roper Opposition and Dean , Faculty of Law, Dr. Derrick Mckoy and Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Pro. Evan Duggan , Proposition. We are extending a very special invitation to you to attend the event and to participate in any ensuing post debate discussion. Please note that cocktails will be served prior to the start of the debates, beginning at 6:00 p.m. Persons are also invited to view an exhibition on Dr. Ambedkar which will be mounted in the courtyard of the Law building.
