PUBLIC FORUM: Chancellor's Commission on Governance

Event Date:
Apr 24 2019 - 5:00pm

UWI

Dear member of The UWI Community,

Here's an opportunity to share your thoughts about the way your University is managed.

The UWI is undergoing a review of all aspects of its governance, including the structures and systems and wants to make decisions based on feedback from those who know the institution best. As the team leading the review effort, the Chancellor's Commission on Governance needs to hear from you.

Join colleagues, students, alumni and other regional voices in a synchronised Public Forum where the Commission will hear your thoughts on governance at The UWI. The meeting will take place on Wednesday April 24, 2019 from 6:00 p.m. EC time/ 5:00 p.m. JA time at the Lecture Theatre Al-A2, Teaching and Learning Complex (TLC), UWI St. Augustine with regional participation via UWltv livestream.

And why should you care about governance?

The UWI requires good governance structures and systems to:

  • deliver its mission effectively and efficiently
  • empower staff and students
  • protect academic authority
  • ensure effective control and due diligence across critical initiatives.

It is important to us that no voices are excluded and that the Commission receives the benefit of the widest spectrum of opinions. This is why in addition to this Public Forum, we are also conducting a series of focus group   sessions   across   all   four   campuses   and   stakeholder   groups  - learn more at uwi.edu/chancellorcommission or email universitymktgcomms@sta.uwi.edu to register to participate. It is from this rich data that your Chancellor's Commission will make recommendations to close any gaps that may be revealed in the University 's current governance arrangements.

You have information that is critical to our work and a more efficient UWI so I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely, Sir Dennis Byron
Chair. Chancellor's Commission on Governance (2018)
