Applying practical approaches to every-day problems

For years teachers and administrators have used trial and error in the way they respond to school-based problems, with less than satisfactory results. Action research looks at problems in a particular setting, in this case the school, and provides the tool to engender the professional growth and development of school personnel in ways that facilitate improved teaching and learning.
Using real life experiences and applying practical approaches to day-to-day problems is the hallmark of the Bachelor of Education degree in Educational Administration which aims to educate and train school and classroom managers. An important feature of the programme is the course practicum which requires students to identify a school-based problem and find a remedy, thereby improving the teaching learning situation.
Christine Hamilton, Latoya Laing-Smith and Janet McLeish undertook the refurbishing of the reading and computer room at the Gospel Refuge Early Childhood Development Centre, making it more child centred and conducive to the teaching/learning process.
