Delivering Dual-Mode Programmes through the Single Virtual University Space

Lecturers in the Post-graduate Diploma in Education Programme

The Single Virtual University space will redefine the way in which The UWI delivers service to the region and the world. Increasingly, Faculties will use technologies such as video conferencing, web conferencing and web-based learning management systems to deliver prgrammes. Multi-modal delivery of postgraduate education for regional and global reach is one of the niche areas of The School of Education (SOE) at The UWI Mona Campus. Starting from as early as 2001 with the M. Ed. Summer and Online programmes where students have accessed their courses online in the traditional semesters and face-to-face in the summer, the SOE is now embarking on a dual-mode delivery of its Postgraduate Diploma in Education, virtual and face-to-face, through the Single Virtual University Space (SVUS).

The School of Education (SOE) will utilize state-of-the-art technologies to teach Information Technology, Mathematics and English face-to-face to students in a fully-wired classroom at The UWI Mona Campus, and simultaneously to students at the Western Jamaica Campus and at the Open Campus sites in Montserrat and St. Lucia, and further afield.

The beauty of this NEW dual-mode Postgraduate Diploma in Education is that without ever having to physically leave their home countries, registered students can complete a one-year teacher training programme via synchronous communication technologies with the SOE through the SVUS at The UWI, Mona.
