Developing the knowledge-based economy

Faculty of Pure & Applied Sciences
Department of Computing
Nathan Collman
Computers are in our cellular phones, our automobiles, and our entertainment equipment; they facilitate our bank transactions, our shopping (whether at the cash register, or on-line) and our access to information. No matter what our walk of life, we are impacted by computers operating within their diverse contexts. The undergraduate programmes of the Department of Computing are producing students, like Nathan Collman, who are able to apply computational tools to solve the information- related problems encountered in these contexts, and to develop new tools when necessary. Graduates from these programmes have a vital role to play in the development of the knowledge-based economy that Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean is striving to establish.
