Educating Information Professionals

The 21st century has seen a growth in the impact of information technology and a greater demand for electronic information resources in all spheres of life. In response to this reality, the Department of Library and Information Studies, at The UWI, Mona is taking an innovative approach to educating information professionals to enable them to become  expert managers of information and facilitators of learning in fulfilment of their ever-changing role .

In the Department’s  two Masters programmes (Masters in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) and the Master of Arts( MA) students are exposed to a range of cutting-edge courses that equip them to function effectively in today’s  technology driven, knowledge based society. These include digital libraries, information literacy, metadata and resource discovery, management of modern information systems, copyright, and archives and records management.

The students are prepared in an information rich environment with state of the art technology, presented with opportunities to conduct evidence-based research projects, and offered global opportunities for the Internship experience.
