Maintaining a tradition of excellence

The University of the West Indies, Mona is proud of the achievements of our members of staff, who have nurtured our brightest minds and made outstanding contributions at the national, regional and international levels. They have helped to maintain The UWI’s continuing strong performance in the areas of teaching, research and outreach, enabling it to amass a rich legacy and solid reputation as an institution of excellence.
Professor of Paediatrics in the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Health, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Celia Christie-Samuels (left); Senior Lecturer in the Department of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science & Technology, Dr. Karl Aiken, and Lecturer in the Department of Physics, Dr.Tannecia Stephenson, are recipients of the Institute of Jamaica’s Gold, Silver and Bronze Musgrave Medals respectively for their contributions to the field of Science.
These three UWI Mona Campus scientists, though in different fields, together share one overall purpose, the advancement of Jamaica through the applied sciences of Medicine, Marine Science and Physics. Different skills yet united for one purpose.
