One laptop per child

The One Laptop per Child (OLPC) is a remarkable technology innovation, originating at MIT, that embeds modern collaborative networking and computing technologies, with creative educational content and tools to enhance early-childhood teaching and learning. The UWI, Mona has partnered with the One Laptop per Child organization to establish 1:1 computing programmes in Jamaican primary schools. So far students from two institutions - August Town Primary and Providence Basic Schools - have received computers through the OLPC initiatve with sponsorship from P.A.C.E Canada, LIME and the University Township Project. The project is being implemented and supported through the OLPC Jamaica volunteer community that was established at the Mona Campus, in collaboration with OLPC San Francisco, and is currently coordinated through the Centre of Excellence at the Mona School of Business & Management.
