Sports Medicine is a distinct specialty for doctors and physiotherapists. The UWI Division of Sports Medicine conducts courses to produce Sports Medicine Physicians and Sports Physiotherapists. These specialists are trained to look after elite athletes, provide team coverage and prescribe exercises to help control conditions like hypertension, diabetes, obesity and osteoporosis.

The UWI Sports Medicine Clinic treats injured athletes, conducts pre-participation screening for teams as well as fitness testing. It has been looking after elite track and field athletes, regional cricketers, national netballers, athletes at all levels, as well as recreational athletes.
