Using Computer Animation in e-learning and culture

UWI Computer Science students

Oral and even written methods of passing on folklore and traditions are becoming increasingly rare as the young are drawn more to multimedia for their entertainment.

The Web, Animation, Visualisation and E-learning (WAVE) research group in the Department of Computing, Mona led by Dr. Ashley Hamilton-Taylor, (right) is actively encouraging the positive use of local culture in the design of e-learning, animation and games for social upliftment.

For their final year computing project, UWI Computer Science students, (l-r)  Andre Sheckleford, Shomari Morrish-Cooke, and Tanielle Davy created a 3D game, entitled Tales of Anancy the Jinal. The game uses modern technological methods to preserve the folklore of Anancy.
