UWI DERMATOLOGIST ELECTED TO PRESTIGIOUS AMERICAN ACADEMY

Lecturer in the Department of Medicine, Dr. Althea East-Innis has been elected an International Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).

The American Academy of Dermatology is the largest, most influential and most representative of all dermatological associations in the United States of America, with a membership of over 13,700 dermatologists. It was founded in 1938, and provides the highest quality standard in continuing medical education. The AAD offers a monthly publication, the Journal of the American Academy for Dermatology and provides regular CME programmes for its members, including biannual conferences. It also provides for public education in the form of press releases, media interviews, pamphlets and other materials. The AAD also liaises with the US Congress, federal agencies, state legislatures and state agencies and plays a major role in formulating socioeconomic policies that can influence the quality of dermatologic care.

In order to qualify as an international fellow, dermatologists based outside of the United States must have obtained board certification equivalent to that of the American Board of Dermatology or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada. Any dermatologist in good standing as a teacher or in research work, or with three years of full-time experience in the field of dermatology and who resides in any country other than the United States of America or Canada is eligible to be an International Fellow.
