The Finance and General Purposes Committee of the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus at its meeting held on March 22, 2006, formally approved arrangements made between the Mona Campus and Breakfast Club Company Limited (BCL) aimed at developing Radio Mona into a profitable venture. Under the terms of the Agreement, the UWI and BCL have established a new company, Universal Media Company Limited to develop the station.

Universal Media Company Limited (UMCL) was incorporated on December 7, 2005 with the University being the majority shareholder. In keeping with Regulation 28 (2) of the Television and Sound Broadcasting Regulations, an application was made for the Radio Mona Broadcasting Licence to be transferred to UMCL and this was approved by the Minister of Information.

The radio station will be managed by BCL under a new management company called News 93FM. In keeping with the new thrust, the UWI and BCL have agreed to rename the station News Talk 93FM.

The management company took possession of the station on April 18, 2006 and is expected to begin the new programming schedule on May 1, 2006. The operation of the station will be in keeping with policies approved by the Board of Directors of UMCL which has membership from both the UWI and BCL.

Radio Mona listeners can be assured that although the programming format will change to attract a wider range of listeners than previously, they will still be able to listen to some of their favourite programmes on a daily basis.
